30 Things Every Woman Should Have by 30

I read this from another blog (misspetitenigeria.blogspot.com) and it is so "on point" so I decided to share. Enjoy!

30 is an important milestone in a woman’s life. It is a very special time in her life. She is at a time when she has left childhood behind and has started enjoying adulthood.

If you are a woman close to your thirties, this is my list of 30 things you should have:

1. An education – This is the best investment you could ever make in your life. Continue learning because as long as you keep learning, you keep growing.
2. A vocation: In addition to your education, become a professional in your career or area of specialisation. Get trained and get the necessary qualifications.
 (more after the cut)
3. A savings account in your own name (and enough money in it) – One of the wisest investments you can make is starting a savings account early. Apportion at least 10% of your earnings to this account and watch it grow.

9 Secrets from a 73-Year Marriage

After 73 years of marriage, 94-year old Barbara Cooper knows how to get through matrimony's rough patches. The author of Fall in Love for Life shares her hard-earned wisdom.

On making time to make love
"I don't understand couples who say they are too busy or too tired to sleep together. Unless they are building roads all day or running a multi-national corporation, I expect they have just lost sight of priorities. If you wish to stay connected and happy in your marriage, my advice to you is to never be too tired or too busy to feel love for your partner. When your life is nearly over, you will regret it if you look back and recall too many nights when you made excuses instead of making love."

On bickering
"The most important thing for any couple trying to get along is to think before you speak. If you are bickering and find that you are getting angry, take a deep breath and change course, and ask your partner to do the same. Try saying something conciliatory like, 'I don't know why this is making me so upset, but it is, so can you just humor me and help me get over it?' By simply admitting you are losing your cool, you may find that the anger quickly dissipates."

On greeting your partner
"If you want your relationship to survive and to thrive, you will have to train yourself to focus most of your attention on the person you love. When your sweetheart comes into the room, whether it's just from taking care of some chores in the garage or from a long day at work, your job is to put down whatever you're doing, look him in the eye, and verbally express your delight at seeing him again. It's really so little to ask, and delivers so much - to both of you."

Love/Lost Series: My Fiancé, His Mom, Sisters & Brothers All Deceived Me For 4 Years

I am in tears as I write this, it’s not that I want anyone’s pity, I’m just putting out the story to let others learn from my story. I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years after he was deported from the UK. When he got here he lived with his sister but they had an argument and she chucked him out. So being the good person I am I got an accommodation for him. We have been in a serious relationship and planned to get married this year. Now for the bombshell……I had NO IDEA he left a wife and two kids in the UK, and I have now discovered that they have been in constant contact. What is most disappointing is that t I know his family well, when I say well, I mean well. If they have a function we all wear the same aso ebi.

On Monday one of his nieces who is really close to me let slip that my boyfriend is planning to travel to London on Thursday, VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!. Can you just imagine that I had no idea. I thought she was joking or seriously mistaken, and I think it’s this reaction that prompted her to tell me about this secret family and about this secret visa that he has somehow managed to obtain.

Love and Lost series

So, as we know, it is that time of the year again! Everyone is thinking about it, some people are trying hard to stop thinking about it, some are crying or sad over it, some others are talking about it, some experiencing it and some hoping to experience it.........it is LOVE. As the saying goes, LOVE IS IN THE AIR and there is no escaping it.
Lets share our stories, the oh-so-familiar and giddy love stories and the stories of love we lost/could never have/can never get back. Keep the stories rolling in.....

10 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy And Content

“Man falls from the pursuit of the ideal of plan living and high thinking the moment he wants to multiply his daily wants. Man’s happiness really lies in contentment.” Mahatma Gandhi

Sometimes giving up and letting things go can make us the happiest. Turning over the pages of time you are quite likely inviting depression, stress and excuses, all leading you to an unhappy and unfulfilled life. So, let us see what are those ‘give ups’ that can make us happy and content.
Give Up your self-directed negative thoughts

If you believe in yourself, believe implicitly, explicitly and unquestionably. Even the tiniest steps taken in right direction are praiseworthy. What matters is you have faith in yourself and you keep moving. Once you have won yourself by kicking off the self-directed negative thoughts, you will be amazed to experience what you accomplish
“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.” -Benjamin Spock
Give up your mean habit of criticizing unnecessarily

Abandon your mean habit of criticizing anybody. Don’t forget that nobody is perfect; being imperfect is an inevitable part of mankind. In many extent we all are perfectly imperfect and even the strongest stumbles; therefore, hitting anybody’s emotional peak unnecessarily highlights your own shortcomings and lack of spirit of criticism. Stay tuned for receiving criticism as an opportunity to construct your own self.
“Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots.” Frank A. Clark

Be Blind To Be Focused

I bumped into this video and the lessons resonated with me

If perhaps you get distracted while listening to this, key lessons among the many lessons are:
1) Do not excuse failure, on no account and for no reason
2) Trust, even when you have no reason to
3) Be blind to be focused
